DISCOVERY KITEBOARDER PROGRAM

Get Started!

Weather permitting you choose the day and away we go.

Includes Safety - Weather & Site Selection, Safety Systems, 4 Line Setup, Launch & Land, Neutral & Power Zones, Power Drag through water in Harness.

  • Please note that the lesson plan is a guide only, and students may progress at a slower or faster rate depending on many factors such as previous watersport experience and wind conditions. Its important to note that everyone learns at a different pace and students simply learn at their own pace and progress to the next section of the training program after each step is completed.Instruction according to International Kiteboarding Organisation (IKO) Standards. All instructors IKO trained.

  • Max 2 students per group. For groups of 2 persons, lesson time is extended to 2.5hrs to allow students time to get setup in wetsuits, safety gear, suncream etc.

  • During the lesson you will learn how to;

  • analyse the wind conditions and site location to determine if it is safe to fly your kite,

  • set-up a kite and lines,

  • launch and land a kite safely,

  • pilot the kite on the beach in the neutral zone,

  • use the safety system to disable and retrieve the kite,

  • relaunch the kite from the water,

  • pilot the kite off the shore in the neutral zone, then into the power zone to initiate a body drag through the water with a series of power dives, then pilot the kite back to the shore in the neutral zone (Each student will do approximately 3 of these body drag runs in the first lesson),

  • walk the kite in the neutral zone back up the beach,

  • pack up the lines and kite so it will be easy to settup next time you fly.

  • The Kiteboarding Australia Discovery Program concentrates on safety and flying the kite without a board. This is an internationally accepted format for teaching kitesurfing and it is important to learn to fly the kite while bodydragging as it is the safest and most efficient way to power up the kite and learn to control the power.
